Culwick, Samuel 30.03.1849 00.09.1881 32 b. 1817 and recorded as vicar choral on 1851 census living 86 Beacon Street, St Chad, Lichfield; his son, James Cooksey Culwich, was a chorister and articled to Thomas Bedsmore at the age of 14 (James was born 1845, so that would have been about 1859-60). Samuel continued as vicar choral - tenor - and can be found in the 1871 and 1881 censuses; he was described as "tenor vocalist; lay clerk at Lichfield cathedral, a zealous worker in the cause of music, and an oratorio singer of repute in the midlands". However, on 27.09.1865 he was ordered to provide a proper substitute; 05.06.1869 Mr Robert Hodgson appointed deputy; 20.07.1877 Mr Broadhurst appointed as deputy until 23.12.1880 (ordered 24.11.1880). He died on 23.08.1881 and his personal estate was 295; his widow Rebecca Culwick (who he had married in 1843) of Victoria Cottage was "the relict and sole executrix" and his will was proved 28.09.1881.
